Richard Bailie-Mace ACS
Richard Bailie-Mace ACS was inducted into the ACS Hall of Fame - 2014. He was born in 1937, started his film career on 14 September, 1953 and finished his career on 30 December, 2006. The following photograph is how we know him at the shed. He is proudly displaying a recently completed mosaic chopping board and lazy susan.
Starting as a negative cutter in the Commonwealth Film unit, he then had the chance of being a production assistant and cameraman on a production called the Coalminer, in 1955. National Service called in 1956, then unexpectedly, Richard was told he was being discharged to fill a role in PNG.
A... cameraman had been injured in a plane crash and Richard was to take his place. His career took him around Australia with the King and Queen of Thailand, to Nauru, England, Malta and all over PNG.
He was then involved in news, documentaries and current affairs with the ABC. During those years Richard won 5 Golden Tripod and 5 merit awards fromthe ACS.
This humble member of the Forster Tuncurry Men's Shed makes no fuss about his career, he just gets on with it. Well done R B-M, as he is known around the shed. The above photograph shows a slightly younger Richard, still sporting his trademark beard.
