November 2018

November 2018

As we move through spring, we are reminded that the warmer weather is upon us. It'll be down to shorts and T-shirts in the shed for most of us. We have had a number of visitors to the shed during the last month, including Probus and Golden Ponds. The date of this years Christmas Party has been announced and we have a new piece of machinery in the form of a portable bandsaw mill. Don't forget that the AGM is scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday February 26th, next year. . All members are encouraged to attend and vote on your future. Please read details about the AGM, in the "News" section of the website, just search for the tab marked News. Nomination forms will soon be available for those who would like to be nominated for the committee or the executive positions.

Your newsletter will now only be delivered electronically through this website. It seems that you have found it, congratulations. Subsequent issues will appear here just before the start of the month. This is to advise members as to what is coming up....enjoy.

Melbourne Cup Sweep ....

Congratulations to all winners of the two big sweeps, and Pres Richard for going to the effort of running them. CR's Joel Gordon was lucky enough to take out both sweeps first prizes with No.23 "Cross Counter", he also put a few bucks on that one (Must've been a kind of omen). Runners up were holders of horse No. 9 "Marmelo" - Mickie Mack and Nick (the Russian) Kalugin, Third place went to Holders of horse No.17 - Tony Young and Tracey Hunter (from CR). Congratulations to all the winners. President Rick will be away for three weeks starting next week. The committe will meet in his absence, so come along if you wish.

The following is an excerpt delevered at an AMSA Conference in Newcastle a

couple of years back. It relates to perecived threats to Men's Sheds

Threat 3

Bureaucratisation and Interference

Along the same lines as 1 & 2, bureaucracies and their interference can lead to dissatisfaction in the Shed. This especially becomes a threat when the bureaucracy holds the purse strings either through providing grant monies or through auspicing the Shed.

Bureaucracies should accept that, as much as possible, the Shed should be run by the men for the men.

What's coming up in November
